Embrace the Fine Arts!
Have you a song in your heart or is acting in your future? Or do you just want to be entertained? Are you ready to pick up a paint brush or work a piece of clay? Or do you just want to enjoy the work of talented, local artists? From choral, to theatre, to visual arts Georgetown TX embraces the fine arts.
Choral enthusiasts will want to check out the San Gabriel Chorale, a growing organization of volunteer singers of all walks of life and varying musical ability. Some have sung for many years and in many organizations across the country, while others are exploring choral music for the first time. For over twenty years, the San Gabriel Chorale has presented large-scale choral works with orchestra for the enjoyment of our audiences both near and far. In recent years, members of the San Gabriel Choral have participated in tours to Carnegie Hall, Central Europe, and China.
For those interested in appearing on stage, you will want to check out the Palace Theatre. Located just south of the historic Courthouse Square in the only building in Georgetown of the Art Deco period, the Palace offers live theater year-round. For those interested in supporting this outstanding community theater, you will want to check out the Palace Theater Guild.
Visual artists and artisans will want to check out the Williamson County Art Guild (WCAG) which has been promoting art education and art events for over a quarter century. The WCAG offers workshops and seminars, and provides an opportunity for artists and artisans to publicly display their artwork. WCAG currently operates The Framers Gallery at 610 S Main Street, just north of the Courthouse Square. You will see the work of WCAG Artists on windows and walls downtown.
For Sun City residents, there are a number of additional opportunities for embracing the fine arts. The Sun City Singers is a popular group that presents two concerts a year. The Actors & Theatre Arts Guild presents three plays a year in addition to being involved in the annual Sun City Follies, plus the Reader's Theatre and The Mad Hatters Group.
The Sun City Visual Arts Club offers monthly programs, open studio and classes, as well as sponsoring exhibits of members’ art. The art treks to area art museums, galleries, and artists’ studios are popular with members. In addition, Sun City offers a Stained Glass Club as well a Creative Clay and China Club. All of the clubs have large studio spaces in the Sun City Crafts Center.
The Sun City Woodshop is a popular place for woodworkers to engage in variety of projects from model making, to wood turning, to carving.
